Lasting bonds are at the heart of our adoption programme. Shelter staff can assess compatibility factors to minimise mismatches and reduce stress for animals. A collaborative approach, combining staff expertise and adopter input, usually leads to better outcomes than purely self-service or prescriptive methods.

A structured, transparent matching framework that includes:

• Quick screening questions (housing type, presence of children/presence of other pets, activity level, experience with pets).

• A tiered recommendation system (suggested top matches, with rationale) rather than a single “best” pet.

• Clear explanations of why each suggested match fits, including potential challenges and care needs.

• Provide post-adoption support (training resources, behaviour helplines) to improve long-term success.
